What a week for Youghal! Our town proudly welcomed its very first cruise liner from the Ponant cruise line, the elegant “Le Bellot” with two special visits that showcased the charm, culture, and community spirit of Youghal.

On Wednesday, 20th August, Youghal rolled out the red carpet for its visitors. The ship moored approximately 3 km from the town, with passengers tendered in to the quayside. The passengers were greeted by the Mayor of Youghal, Mary Linehan Foley, members of Cork County Council, and the Harbour Master.

Youghal Chamber of Tourism & Development played a key role in organising the visit, presenting each guest with a “Lucky Irish Penny” gift bag in partnership with Perks Entertainment Centre, a warm Irish keepsake to remember their time in town. Traditional music and dance from Youghal Comhaltas added to the buzzing atmosphere, complemented by the clear, booming voice of Town Crier Cliff Winser and a vintage touch from the Cobh Heritage Vintage Era group.

Visitors explored Youghal’s rich heritage with guided tours through our medieval streets to St Marys Collegiate Church, entertained along the way by local buskers. Some guests ventured along the new Youghal to Midleton Greenway, while others enjoyed a visit to the Jameson Distillery in Midleton.

The excitement continued on Wednesday, 28th August, with another special cruise visit from “Le Bellot” While weather conditions redirected passengers via Cobh, it did not dampen the experience. From the quayside, visitors were warmly welcomed once again by Cork County Council, Youghal Chamber of Tourism & Development, Town Crier Cliff Winser, and a choir of students from Gaelscoil Choraín, celebrating the town’s vibrant heritage.

The “Lucky Irish Penny” gift bags were again presented, offering guests a memorable keepsake of Youghal. Visitors then embarked on guided walking tours through our historic town, making their way to the magnificent St. Mary’s Collegiate Church. They also explored new cultural gems, including the Youghal Lace Museum and the Film & Photography Museum, experiencing centuries of local craft, artistry, and storytelling.

From medieval walls to seaside charm, Youghal’s rich heritage, culture, and community spirit shone brightly over both visits. Guests left with unforgettable memories, a testament to a town where history and hospitality go hand in hand.

The Chamber received the loveliest email from Lorraine, a cruise consultant, praising the hard work that went into bringing “Le Bellot” to Youghal. Her kind words mean so much.
