Nestled under the protective arms of Youghal Town Walls, in the Raleigh Quarter of Youghal, St Mary’s College Church, is a national monument of huge national and international significance. Historic traditions indicate a Church here back in the time of St Declan of Ardmore in the 5th century. On a visit to St. Mary’s Collegiate Church the history is tangible – with magnificent architecture, the 13th century oak roof structure, the fascinating plaques and effigies. Of course together with the wonderful structure St. Mary’s Collegiate Church places us in times of great historic events and in eras of historic figures, e.g Sir, Richard Boyle – 1st Earl of Cork, Oliver Cromwell, who wintered in Youghal in the 1600s. Passing historic Molana Abbey on the left, we enter a tranquil, unspoilt area of natural beauty, as yet untouched by urban development. The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes, subject to weather and tides.
